Avast behind, shipmates! 'Twill soon be panto season me hearties, and for 2018 Dawlish Repertory Company are presenting Treasure Island, everyone's favourite swashbuckling classic. This particular adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson's story is Treasure Island meets Robinson Crusoe, and our story begins when the hero, Jim Hawkins, finds a treasure map in an old chest in an Inn, and sets sail for Treasure Island with his mum, Ma Hawkins, Inn owner Squire Trelawney, and the Squire's pretty daughter, Felicity. Of course, the evil pirate Captain Long John Silver, together with his sarcastic parrot Polly and silly shipmates Brass and Knuckles, are also after the treasure. And marooned on Treasure Island is Robinson Crusoe (a rather suave, James Bond-type figure) accompanied by Girl Friday and her friends Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, who also join in on the pirate frolics, with everything watched over by the traditional Fairy Godmother who ensures a happy ending for all. A wonderful family show full of songs, dances, laughs, peril, romance and slapstick humour.
The reading will take place on Monday 28th August at 7.30pm at the theatre with auditions the following Sunday 3rd September at 2.00pm.
